All participants of Hacker Cabin are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct, both online and during in-person events that are hosted and/or associated with Hacker Cabin.

In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as moderators of Hacker Cabin pledge to make participation in our project and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone.

Self promotion

We expect all members to keep on the right side of building in public. Anyone using the platform to self promote and/or spam will be warned and if the self promotion continues will be excluded from the site.

Here are some guidelines for best practices:

  • Don’t just start submitting your links everywhere. It will be unwelcome and may be removed as spam, or your account will be banned as spam
  • Be authentic and helpful
  • Give feedback to others
  • Share things that are inspiring to others

Our Standards

Examples of behaviour that contributes to creating a positive environment include:

  • Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
  • Gracefully accepting constructive criticism

We pledge to prioritise marginalised people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. We will not act on complaints regarding:

  • ‘Reverse’ -isms, including ‘reverse racism,’ ‘reverse sexism,’ and ‘cisphobia’
  • Reasonable communication of boundaries, such as ‘leave me alone,’ ‘go away,’ or ‘I’m not discussing this with you.’
  • Someone’s refusal to explain or debate social justice concepts

Enforcement

Violations of the Code of Conduct may be reported by contacting the admin of this site or any moderator, or by contacting us here. All reports will be reviewed and investigated and will result in a response that is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances. Further details of specific enforcement policies may be posted separately.

Moderators have the right and responsibility to remove comments or other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to suspend temporarily or permanently any members for other behaviour that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
